Default Skill Chains for extra damage

I really like how in this game that you can link certain skills and cause a little extra damage depending on the skills you choose. For example if you use one skill to cause bleeding and then another skill maybe do extra damage to a bleeding target is a very nice idea.

I did a search through some of the forums and did not see any discussions about skill chaining with party members. Yes if you happen to use a bleeding skill and someone else has a skill that does extra damage to mobs that are bleeding it works ok. I liked how in FFXI two players or more could set up a skill chain and a mage could magic burst from the effect of the two skills together. An example for this would be like Dancing Edge >>> (then) >>> Cross Reaper = Distortion (once you see distortion happen a mage could cast a cold spell and do extra damage). I by NO means want this game to be exactly like FFXI but I do like some of the parts from FFXI and other online games that might be kewl to have here.

I just think it would be kewl to have like Eviscerate >>> Hundred Blades >>> some kind of extra damage bonus from doing then in a row, then have a mage burst for a tad bit more damage. I just think it would ask more of players to work together, team play, increase some skill to the game, and give a nice effect to playing the game. (Again sorry if someone posted this idea, but I didn't see anything. Feel free to comment, suggest ideas, or say why you don't like it. Immature comments not welcome. Looking for positive feedback or positive criticism.)

I'm sorry, but having played Final Fantasy 11, I have to disagree with you on this one, I like the current setup just the way it is. Everyone wants to add elements they liked from one game to another that they just happen to enjoy, and games dont always benefit from this. A skill chain system in this game, would in my opinion, make things a little to easy, and I happen to enjoy the current setup of mix and match skills.

Mm... the way it works right now, there are some interesting patterns that can be worked out between a ranger and an elementatlist: for instance, if a ranger sets up Greater Conflagration and Winter, then virtually all of the damage done in the area for the next few minutes is going to be cold damage: elemental damage and physical damage alike.

This has interesting synergy with the Necromancer spell Spinal Shivers, which causes a target foe that takes cold damage to be interrupted.

What this effectively means is that a character under the effect of Winter, Firestorm and Spinal Shivers is effectively shut down completely, as is a character under the effect of Greater Conflagration, Winter, Spinal Shivers, and attacked by a typical sword warrior, since virtually every attack interrupts them.

Note that in the first case, i.e. Winter, Firestorm, and Spinal Shivers, the setup requires at least two characters, since there are skills from three Professions involved.

Exactly right. I believe there are many "chains" that can be setup right now as part of the game using 2-3 profession skills. With so many different skills, there actually are MANY different combinations that would work well together. They don't necessarily give UBER damage, but they "synergize" well so that you get the max benefit from each.

Which is what this game is all about, nothing in the game is AWESOME, but each piece has a specific time when it would be useful. And another specific piece to counter it.

Guild wars pretty much has its own chain set up of skills, and as the game is out for longer, more of these skills will be realize... And more and more people are going to have certain builds that seem "Impossible" to beat... untill of course, someone finds some sort of team build that works against that, and it will keep going like that forever... i love the "Paper, rock scissors" Sort of sceme they have going on...

Obviously you didn't read closely enough. I stated in caps that I by no means want this game to turn into FFXI. My point for skill chains was not only does it require skill (which this game is focused on creating players and having skill at the game) but it also requires teamwork. Granted you can have to melee characters and they can take the extra time to crtl click skill "I'm using this attack" but that takes extra time that could be vital. It would be nice to be able to not have to use the extra time to use it and still have skills link. And for bursting idea like FFXI it would allow magic users to get in on the working together to take out baddies as a team. As of now its 99% individual using you're skills and chaining with yourself. Which is nice I like that idea that you can link your skills.

And once again I DO NOT WANT THIS TO BE FFXI!!!! But FFXI does have some good points for team play and skill. You're timing has to be good and if your off no bonus. I'm not saying ok my hundred blades -->(linked with) Eviscerate --> does 100 extra damage. But working together and linking skills maybe get like 20 extra damage and magic users who use a skill that links could do an extra 10-20 damage.

By no means am I saying increase damage and linking skills so that you obliterate mobs or one guy instantly. But if skills link I guarantee that players will want to chain together to get that little extra damage, because 10-20 damage can mean life or death in some situations.

Yes there are good things and bad things about this, I'm simply pointing out the good things that this would bring out --> Teamwork and skill which are supposed to be something GW is all about.

I'd rather just have more skills that work well in combination with each other. Then, you would fit the good parts of skill chaining, teamwork and skill, with the current combat mechanic.
